At Healthy Kids Dentistry, we believe that you can only provide high-quality dentistry if you’re keeping up with the times. Every day, a new discovery is made in the dental field, and our dental office does our best with staying up-to-date with these advancements, because we’re dedicated to providing the best possible care to your little one. Below, you can learn more about some of the modern technology that we use in our dental office.

Digital X-Rays

In the past, dentists would use film X-ray imaging to be able to view the area of the mouth that lies below your child’s gumline to diagnose issues such as tooth infections, interproximal cavities, and impacted teeth. Today, we utilize digital imaging because it doesn’t require developing, which can make an appointment last longer, and the quality of the picture is better, leading to accurate diagnoses. In addition, digital X-ray imaging systems emit up to 95% less radiation, making the process safer.

Intraoral Camera

Intraoral cameras are small, wand-shaped devices with cameras on the end of them that allow us to get a closer look at your child’s mouth. We can capture still images and display live video footage of their smile on a chairside monitor to better explain to you and your child what oral health issue they may face and how our recommended treatment plan can help address it.

Cone Beam CT Scanner

3 D C T cone beam x-ray scanner

While planning important treatments like Invisalign or traditional braces, we may capture a cone beam CT image of your child’s mouth. In just 30 seconds, this device creates a 3D digital, panoramic blueprint of the entire facial structure, allowing our dentists to view the facial nerves, jawbone, and sinuses. With this additional detail, they can plan treatments that offer optimal outcomes and are safer.

Digital Impression System

Putty impressions are messy, gag-inducing, and not always the most accurate way to build perfectly-fitted restorations or protective and comfortable mouthguards. That’s why we utilize a digital impression system. With one wave around the mouth, this system will build a 3D blueprint of your child’s smile that we can send off to our dental laboratory. The result is a perfectly fitted oral appliance or crown that stands the test of time and provides maximized protection.

Dental Laser

Our soft tissue dental laser is a pen-like device that emits a thin, concentrated beam of light from the end of it. It’s able to remove overgrown gum tissue and kill harmful oral bacteria on the spot without the need for sutures or a scalpel. The best part is, it immediately cauterizes the area, minimizing bleeding and reducing the recovery time for certain procedures, making your child’s overall experience more comfortable and less invasive.

Cavity Detection System

Cavities are one of the most common oral health problems that children face because they’re still learning how to properly care for their smiles. Our cavity detection system allows us to spot even the smallest, earliest signs of decay to ensure that they don’t progress into a large problem down the road. It utilizes fluorescent technology to highlight decay, even interproximal cavities that are hidden between teeth, so we can treat them immediately and restore your child’s oral health.
