Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

While she was considering going into different healthcare fields, dentistry instantly appealed to Dr. Sockanathan. She saw it would allow her to spend plenty of time with each patient, solve many problems relatively quickly, and give her the chance to blend art and science to serve people’s health and appearance. All of these elements made it the perfect fit, and she couldn’t be happier with her decision!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Sockanathan received a bachelor's degree in psychology from NYU before going on to earn her dental degree from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She then completed a General Practice Residency at Staten Island University Hospital and received her specialty training in pediatric dentistry from St. Barnabas Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident. Today, she is an active member of both the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When she isn’t taking care of our young patients, Dr. Sockanathan enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, baking, and spending quality time with friends and family.
