Family making food during the holidays

The holidays are a great time for you and your family to enjoy each other’s company. Your child may be excited about the upcoming events, but even more so about the seasonal foods! It can get them into the spirit, but you should do your best to ensure they are tooth-friendly. Even though the days are sweet, cavities can still cause trouble! Here are three meals you can make that can help keep their growing smile strong.

Baked Zucchini Rounds with Cheese

This is a simple recipe that calls for zucchini, Parmesan cheese, and seasonings that come together to make an easy but tasty dish. These ingredients all promote your child’s oral health as they are rich in many things. The fiber in it helps stimulate saliva production, washing away harmful bacteria. Calcium is essential for keeping tiny teeth strong, while vitamin C helps promote healthy gums.

All you have to do is cut the zucchini into quarter-inch slices and place it on a baking sheet with a thin layer of olive oil. Top with seasonings, such as salt, pepper, or any other your child loves, and put on the cheese! Bake until the top is golden brown and you’re all set. Serve with ranch or garlic dip, and your child may be asking for seconds.

Fruit Platter with Yogurt Dip

A tasty dessert you can end the meal with is serving your child a fruit salad or platter! Oranges, kiwis, and pomegranates may not only have a seasonal flair, but also be full of vitamins and nutrients. Combine bite-sized pieces into a bowl (or make it with your loved one’s favorites) with a drizzle of honey and fresh lime juice, and it may be a hit!

If you want a more snackable option, then consider slicing up apples and pears and having a yogurt dip nearby. Your family will be able to graze on a healthy option that has a burst of flavor with a satisfying crunch.

Soft-Baked Goods

Regardless of what you serve up to your child this holiday season, they may still want to have a sweet confection. You should do your best by limiting them and encouraging healthier choices, but if you let your child indulge, then choose safe options!

Soft-baked goods, such as cookies, brownies, or warm gingerbread, can be better choices. Anything sticky or crunchy can cause damage or increase the risk of cavities. However, other, gentler options can be washed away more easily with water or brushing. That way, your loved one’s growing smile will be problem-free this holiday season.
